About Dash Calculator

Dash Calculator is a free set of calculators read like the dials on an instrument panel: one readout, one job. It covers vectors and coordinates, complex numbers and functions, algebra and number work, and the practical sums that come up at home, in the workshop and at a party. Each calculator takes the numbers you type, applies one standard formula and shows the answer together with the formula, what every variable means and a worked example you can repeat by hand.

The eight panels

Every page sits on one of eight panels: vectors and coordinates, complex numbers and functions, algebra and polynomials, numbers and counting, sizing and fit, metrics and rates, machines and energy, and party and kitchen. Every page is also listed in the A to Z index, and the unit converter handles ten kinds of quantity when an input is in the wrong unit.

What a calculator page holds

  • The calculator itself, opened on a realistic worked case, with the answer updating as you type.
  • The formula in words and symbols, with units, conventions and constants.
  • A worked example that uses the default numbers step by step.
  • The limits of the formula and the mistakes people make with it.
  • The exact lines the calculator runs, in a “Formula used” box.

What is not here

The site keeps to general, checkable arithmetic. It does not publish calculators for loans, credit, tax, investments or crypto, medical or dosage questions, gambling, or safety sizing such as beams, cables, towing or lifting loads. It quotes no prices: where a sum needs a figure only you can get, such as a carton size or a fabric width, the calculator asks you to enter it. Read how the calculators work.
